…Senators Pursue Hergert’s Impeachment

A special committee of the Nebraska legislature voted to impeach a right-wing member of the University of Nebraska’s elected board of regents. While Jack Abramof, “Duke” Cunningham, and the Ohio GOP pension fund looters get most of the attention on the issue of corruption, the behavior of lower-level Republican officeholders indicate the rot extends to the grassroots.

Dave Hergert’s campaign web site, http://www.davehergert.com, lists his top two endorsers as “Nebraskans United for Life” and “Nebraska Right to Life Group.” While his anti-choice positions may have gotten him elected, his violations of campaign laws also helped. (Of course, you might wonder how expressing anti-choice views qualifies someone to lead a major university.)

Is there any point at which the Republican grassroots will acknowledge that the rot in their party, caused by political gluttony, must be purged?
